Excellent fix David - elegant and effective. I'm with Tony on the value of such skills in the education system. Many years ago I managed a team of service engineers in the UK and at one stage I interviewed over 60 candidates before I found one who could pass the initial straightforward practical tests. You can probably guess that the guy I eventually hired had not been educated in the UK. At least I'm detecting a recognition in some political quarters that we need a manufacturing base (like Germany) if we are to survive future economic woes with a greater degree of resilience. Of course that may or may not translate into preparing our future youngsters for such work.
