Hi Rob,
You might need to fiddle with the "Stability" control. Start out by getting a flat trace with nothing else connected, then think about applying signals. The stability control will need rotating back until the trace locks - too far and the timebase stops.
All that said, it's been 20 years since I last used one of these, so my memory might not be 100%
