Cambridge 44226 Portable potentiometer

Dug this out of the depths of the garage today.
I think originally it was used for measuring/testing thermocouples.
The galvanometer key should be good for testing caps and coil/transformer windings for shorts though.

Any thoughts?

A Galvo uses very low current, so any caps or coils that break down under load or when warm (Rank A640 LOPT anyone) would not show up on this.

Might be useful as a milliohmeter though. If you're tracing a short, the resistance of wire or print may show up so you can effectively trace it.

When I worked for Ultrak in Warrington, I used one to find a short circuit diode on a 16 camera switcher unit. Trouble was, although my boss was impressed some of the salesmen hated my guts from that day on.

Such is life.
