Avo Signal Generator Type 111

I've just acquired one of these in pristine condition, though minus the manual. I do have the manual for the original Avo Signal Generator, which is similar in apearance,but not the same. I've trawled t'internet looking for a freebie download, for the 'Type 111' but with no luck. I know it's a bit of a long shot, but I thought I'd ask on the forum if anyone has a copy that they'd kindly e-mail to me?

I already have three signal generators so didn't need another - it's yet another expmple of nostralgia triumphing over common-sense, but I'm applying my daughter-in-law's logic, which is that 'a woman can't have too many pairs of shoes or handbags'. As shoes and handbags don't float my boat, I bought this instead

Naturally curiousity got the better of me so I took the back off to peep inside! Neat the way that all the 'works' are inside a screw of circular screening can. As with all Avo stuff, nicely conceived and beautifully made.

I read the front panel as 'Type III', i.e.'Type 3' rather than 'Type 111'.
It looks as new inside, and not far off on the outside - very nice!

Only three Signal Generators? You've hardly started yet.
I have to say that I'd have been tempted as well.
I would have taken bets that I have an Advance with the same or a very similar construction method, but I can't find any pictures. That probably means inadequate documentation on my part. I'll keep looking.

Very interesting site it is too - lots of stuff on other test gear, and all manner of things valve radio & TV related. I've got an Advance Sig Genny in the garage loft, which is tatty externally due to rust patches on the screen printed front panel, but inside is iimaculate.

Also got a Heathkit (RF1U?) and a Trio.

At the above site, there's info on the little student 'Serviscope' which I once had, and wonder why I got rid of, but occasionally, I de-clutter. I also got rid of a little Taylor R/C bridge and rather wished I hadn't. This forum is a bad influence upon me, giving me urges to collect yet more stuff, but as they're the only urges I get these days, what the heck:D

Signal generators - and similar items of T & M kit: it's always handy to have more than one of any given instrument. That way, when you've made a measurement and think "Huh? That can't be right!" you can then repeat same measurement with the other one(s) available. Chances are that both will give the same result - so the trouble doesn't lie with the instruments. But with only one instrument, the doubt will be there, leading to all sorts of blind alleys and probable unnecessary investigations.

As I've said many times, all our work with electronics is done with trust: trust in the reliability of your test kit, trust in your correct use of it, trust in your ability to make sense of what it tells you. And if that trust is ever in doubt . . . .
