My latest additions - AVO8 & RF Sig Gen

Finally found an AVO 8 in good condition and an RF signal generator which is the same model I had years ago. Now I just need to get that old oscilloscope working........I'll be looking for some help with that.

The Avo 8 is well worth having. The analogue movement can read things that no digital meter can: try testing the junctions of a transistor, for example. Great bit of kit.

The sig genny looks like a Tech 'TE20D'. Quite a nice thing - I had one a few years ago, that I bought for a fiver at a radio rally and kept for a few years during which it gave good srvice, till a Trio one came along.

Few basic signal generators have very accurate dials, so it's as well to have a frequency counter to hand to check the actual, rather than the indicated frequency othe dial. That's the thing about test gear - one thing leads to another, and another... David.

Thanks guys, I'm pleased to have an AVO - even if it is a later model. It's got a note inside saying the batteries were last replaced in 1990 - time to replace them I guess. I'll have a look inside the TE-20D in case anything needs replacing. I've got the modern gear so I guess I'm back-filling to have test gear more appropriate to the age of the radios.

The battery for OHMS in my B&K is older than 1988 and seeing as it's American and the meter lives at school it's probably the original battery!!
I'm not replacing yet LOL

Got some time to check out the sig gen and the AVO. Alas the AVO does not work on the x10k ohms range. The needle moves slightly when I short the leads but does not deflect across to zero like on the other two ranges. Before I go opening it up I'd be glad for any advice on things to check out. Its a MKV so I'm reluctant to move those plastic flat cables around too much.

Dumb question - have you measured its 22.5v battery? They're often flat. Alan
