Thanks gents, yes a nice instrument to have, it does a lot more than I'll ever need it for. As a developer of circuits and all-round electronic engineer I know my place, somewhere around the bottom of the class. I quite like looking for old test equipment, as long as it works and I can use it for repairing radio sets, it interests me.
I think this one's relatively late as I've read of Issue 10 and 12 PCBs and this one is Issue 14, the manual I have is from 1966 and features different transistors in the circuit diagram. Rather than a GET102 for the 1KHz oscillator per the manual mine has, I think, an ACY17 though as it's held in a clip and guarded against mechanical shock by a rubber shroud I'm not about to check.
David, I was wondering this too. Looking at even the 'simpler' modern test equipment like signal generators and frequency counters, they cost a serious amount of money despite, I imagine, the reduced labour costs of them being manufactured in the Far East. I'll see if I can have a dig around for older test equipment prices.
The hunt is now on for a more upmarket but affordable 'scope. Like Tektronix 465 for £20........ :0 Someone offered a working Tektronix 2445 on Cambridge Freecycle this week, amongst the usual household flotsam on there. The guy had posted it while I was at work so it had been well jumped on and collected by the time I read the message.
