Raspberry Pi PAL/NTSC output

i don't own a Pi yet so this is all speculaltive stuff.

RPIs have a composite output connector, a phono (RCA) socket on most, a header on pi zero:

Clearly the Pi zero doesn't have a dedicated coder chip. Don't know about other PIs. This raises the question of whether the composite output could in theory be programmable to do 405.

It may well be that the composite output logic is pretty much dedicated to doing PAL/NTSC and not very programmable. Or not.

Your thoughts please.

Interesting question and one I'll be exploring. Santa is bringing me a Pi so thereafter I'll be doing some research. I may me wrong but I believe it uses a Broadcom chip.

I believe the problem is the lack of detail with the Broadcom chip and/or the operating system doesn't support composite modes other than standard NTSC or PAL.
(BTW, I'm no video expert and if I've used the wrong terminology I apologise.)

Sorry can't help with 405line, but watch the connections.
The Latest Pi 3 Model B and the older B+ have the composite video and audio outputs on a 4 pole 3.5mm jack.
This caught me out as the cables I had around use  the 'body' connection as ground which will not work.
The connections are,  from body to tip: Video, Ground, Right, Left. (see here).

I do believe one of the problems is Broadcom do not release the info.

The RPi is not open source hardware or software and it never has been.
