its the mixer/ocs screan grid decoupler .it does look in good condition but all the others were US i think i will change some of the rotten wireing refit the mains lead and see what happens.

well there had to be a way and heres how .
set wave chandge to SW.
unscrew the plate at the front that holds the shaft and pull out the shaft.
next on the rear coil pack unsolder wire to the tuneing cap and the two from valve 1.
next unscrew the two bolts that hold the coil pack on top of the chasses.
finaly remove the cross brase.
you now have access to C3.

only problem is going to be putting it all together again
Good solution Rob, did similar with an Halli SX28, the shaft passed through many wafers and was about a foot long, I guess the upshot is not to rotate the shaft when withdrawing, not to rotate the wafers when replacing the components and not to rotate the shaft when re inserting, my case was similar as it was impossible to replace the components properly unless the shaft was removed.
I have a couple of caps to do on a R1155 which will entail band change switch shaft removal, not looking forward to it at all.
