The third Tuesdays in the month are always hectic for me as it's when we have our local Woodturning Club meetings, which consist of a programme of professional demonstrators, and a members' competition of which I'm one of the panel of three judges, in addtion to being the secretary. It involves setting out chairs, setting up two projectors stands and screens, a video camera, competition judging stand, sales tables dust extraction equipment and so on, then at the end of the evening, clearing everything away and leaving the Village Hall as we found it. My wife and I set it all up late in the afternoon, then in the evening, with other members help, the lathe has to be lugged out of the storeroom, and up two ramps into the hall. all in all, quite a palaver.

I hope there's a pub to call in at on the way home

Shame about the coils. They LOOK like the ones in transistor radios so could they be pinched from there?

I've added some notes in the archive as Joe suggested.

The coils in transistor radios are for the IFTs and oscillator, generally for an I.F. of 455 KHz or thereabouts, so it's questionable whether or not the cores would work at higher frequencies. (Up to 16 MHz for range 4). Probably OK for the lowest range - 350 - 600 kHz. I guess that's the range of most interest for re-aligning IFTs.

Certainly before anyone embarks on building it, the coil obstacle needs to be overcome.

Thanks for reading the thread and posting the link Colin.

Peter's website is more than a year out of date, so I doubt he has any of the required coils left. He only had one when I built mine in mid 2010 - Robin at Sycom (now closed) supplied another, Chris at Mode Components, (also sadly closed now) supplied another, and one came from a chum - a spare from a wobby that he built. Great project - if I were to biuld it now, I don't think I'd let the coil issue stop me - by one means or another, I'm sure that other Toko coils could be re-wound to suit.

Great guy - very obliging and often sourced hard to get items not listed on his site.

I think there's really only Peter at JAB left now of that ilk, and of course Wilf at Bowood, who is a really nice guy, and carries limited stocks of things of interest such as pots, and Bardwell's still soldier on. But for vintage stuff, such as caps and resistors I try to use Savoy Hill when I can - I think small outfits are to be encouraged. Of the rest, I favour ESR, Cricklewood and Spiratronics.
