No, they weren't in prison
Walking back from shopping the other day there was a pile of stuff dumped outside a closed shop which had just had its fascia re-done. I was fairly heavily laden so I could only grab this item. As you can see it's over 4 feet long. I powered it today and it takes just under 2A at 12V. It's pretty bright but hard to judge in daylight. Should light up a dark loft or whatever nicely. Or I can prise individual 3 LED strips off it for other uses. I'll search through my wallwarts and see if I can find a 12V 2A unit. Otherwise I might have an old 12V halogen driver that might work. Most of them need at least 20W loading so aren't happy with small LED loads but should be OK with this.
I really should have gone back and snaffled the rest. There was at least one more unit like this plus others in different shapes. All gone now, probably as rubbish.
Sidenote: The shop was a restaurant called SPU Pizza, owned by Iranians I think. There's a large community of them round my way. The restaurant wasn't open for long under that name. I wonder why. A couple of miles down the road there used to be an Indian restaurant called Sikka. Never went there either
