On most older and simpler scopes you just get the basic V/div setting on the knob. You then allow for the x10 probe in your head. So 2V/div becomes 20V/div. This scope shows you the basic and x10 settings which saves some very simple mental arithmentic.
Some more sophisticated scopes with on-screen readouts work with probes that indicate to the scope whether they are x1 or x10 and always display the sensitivity at the probe tip. I think some others, possibly including my Rigol 1054Z, have a user selectable setting for probe type so that the on-screen readouts are correct. Less sophisticated than automatic probe sensing but doesn't need special probes.
