That's rather what I was thinking. For ordinary usage (web, mail, office) then it's all working "out of the box". My needs are bit more complex. Notably supporting 3 generations of Xilinx FPGA software. i've already established ISE10 and ISE14.7 in XP virtual machines. The next job is to instal the Linux version of Vivado. It's specified to work in Ubuntu so it should work in Mint. This is the sort of package that says it wants 100GB of disk space to instal.
I've also got to make sure I've got things like a decent backup regime working from when I start to use it as my main system. I'll probably just use GPARTED to clone the relavnt parts of the file system but I've got to try it and feel confident about it.
