Well I haven't had a radio project for ages so, when I was in Ireland a few months back I was delighted when the lads gave me a present of a P53 in need of some work. It was covered in 'tar' residue which I assumed meant is came for a smoker however since there was no cigarette smell it may have been in a room with an open coal or turf fire. Either way it meant lots of time cleaning bits and pieces. Luckily the old ultrasonic clear did a wonderful job. Since the tar covering keeps rust at bay the parts came up good as new!
Alas there are lots of Hunts caps so they will have to go - I've done the tone control selector but won't re-fit it until the main electrolytics arrive. The original on/ff switch is still there and working fine - a first for me. On my third set I finally came up with an effective way of cleaning the speaker grill. The dial glass is in excellent condition so it should look nice when it's all done.
Nice to have a vintage set to work on after so long.....
Cheers, John
