Full Version: Fixing dings in laminate worktop

I bought some laminate worktop the other day to use for a partial re-fit of our bathroom. It's only after I'd cut it to size that noticed two dings in the front edge. Probably caused by heavy strapping on a pile of them when they were shipped to B&Q. I thought I'd inspected the piece carefully before I bought it but it's not easy to see through the polythene protective wrapping.

Obviously far too late to take it back so there are two options. Spend another £38 on a new one (and inspect it very carefully before purchase!) or somehow fix the dings.

Any ideas on how to fix the dings? I have offcuts which I could deliberately ding in order to practice. I doubt any repair could be invisible; even if I match the colour, the texture will be different. I suppose I could try steaming as a first step.
Hi Jeffrey
I would try steam first. Hopefully it would get in behind the laminate and swell the wood. Thereby pushing the laminate back into shape.

Its rubbish work top, hollows under the heat formed rolled edge, take it back or just chuck it and buy some proper stuff from a good supplier not a shed.
If it was proper stuff, it would not dent like that so it was poor quality before you cut it, get a refund. Tap it along the roll and you will hear the hollows.
If you keep it, there will be many more defects apparent after a short time and you will never be happy with it.
Looks like Jesus, looks like you've got some holy laminate, ring the Church News : )
I would take it back: they can only say No!

You wont get them out and no point in spending time and effort when the materials are faulty before you change it.

Looking at the ends, the core is solid, if that's a good term for chipboard. I'm pretty sure they were caused by heavy strapping when they were transported from maker to store.

This stuff is sold to repair worktops but steam is easier to try first: https://www.screwfix.com/p/colorfill-wor...hite/49643
