Designing user interfaces, especially when you have a limited number of controls, is difficult if you want to do it well. This is the curse and benefit of all modern equipment where there's software mediating between the user and the action.

With the vintage kit that we all love, there's a very direct correspondence between what the user does and what happens inside.
Hi Mark
Having multiple converters is always a benefit. I have neglected my TV collection in recent years but when I get back to it I can see myself having converters dotted around the place.
Yes it uses the same case as the previous Hedghog's.
It is easy enough to programme. You just need to know a few things about the standard you want to define.
Such as:
The length of front porch, H sync, back porch and broad pulses.
The number of lines, active lines and broad pulses.
The field frequency.
The height of the sync pulses.
I will have a description of the menu done up soon and I will link to it here.

Hi Jeffrey
User interfaces is always a problem but I think it has worked out OK.
Left rotary encoder changes between parameters. Right rotary encoder changes the value.
Pushing the left push button updates the converter, modulators and digital pot with the new values and also saves the values to memory.
There are no nested menus.

I hope Stephen don't mind me saying, I send him a couple of PCB's to test and he has successfully made one up.

Frank
Is there a port that can be linked to a PC? Obviously there's a programming interface but I'm thinking of an operational interface. So you can set up the parameters for an output standard with a nice UI. Possibly also see waveforms and/or pictures that mimic what the converter will produce.
This is probably a daft question. Once you have carefully programmed an output standard can you save it for future us? Can you save a sort of library of your favourite standards?
Hi Jeffrey
There is no port left for connecting to a PC. A nice idea though.

When entering a standard it is entered into 1 of 20 presets. Each preset stores a standard and a modulator setting. So up to 20 unique standards and/or modulator settings can be stored.
I doesn't take long to enter a standard. Once I know the various values that's needed I can enter them in about a minuet.

It was a pleasure to be able to build yet another of Franks brilliant designs, worked first time without any hitches.
Fantastic. Thank you Frank for the link and the menu description. I recognised some of the components from the original Hedghog that I brought multiples of. I will get started on ordering parts and let you know how I get on.
By the way do you have available a PCB I could buy direct from you like you did before?
Mark.
Hi Mark
Yes I have some spare PCB's here just send me a PM. The only problem is you may have to pay a customs charge his time around.

Frank
Excellent work Frank!

Very impressive.

Thanks Jac
