Hello people.

I'm really interested in old stuff and computers are my passion. I have had some old computers I did experiements on them (Including adapting a pentium III processor in a Pentium II/Celeron motherboard socket) and the only old pc I have is a very good and working Pentium III AT motherboard with two DIMM slots where I put two 512mb ram and a 20gb IDE winchester. Now the specs are:
Pcchips Motherboard m757
Pentium III 1,1ghz socket 370
2x 512mb ram DIMM = 1gb
20gb hard drive
onboard 64mb shared video memory
DVD-R Unit Pioneer

My intention is to install Windows 7.
To do this, I start the install in another computer, a compatible one because Windows 7 dvd refuses to install in a pc with less than a PEntium IV processor.

I've done it before in an Athlon 750mhz AT and worked well. So I'll try and update here the results.
Keep good machines alive is what I like.
Some of the "light" Linux distros will run very well on your PC. You can try them as a live DVD or on a memory stick first. If happy then install to your HDD.

PS. Welcome to the forum.
I still run W98 on a P2 266MHz to work with some specific hardware.

Otherwise if I wanted to use old hardware I'd follow Trevors advice and use a lightweight Linux distro.
If you are running old hardware why not keep it authentic and install the operating system designed for it.

Please remember that these old Windows versions are vulnerable architecturally to a number of modern malware vectors  for which anti-virus software offers no protection.

We see a lot of malware delivered as "drive by" via just a visit to a website or by an embedded advert on a normally legit site. The second biggest vector is email.

The world is much more complicated and nuanced that it was when windows 98 or 7 were around. These OSs are not only no longer fully security updated, they can never be as their architecture doesn't allow then to be properly protected.

If you're insistent on using old operating systems, keep them away from the internet.

Old Linux distros have their own problems but are probably better in this use case.
Thanks for your help, friends. Linux is the best solution thought but I want this challenge, to see Windows 7 working on it. Anyhow I can formast again and install Linux or put another hard disk with linux also.

When the project is don I post the pics here.
