Hi,

I've only ever restored one TV set and I was a total novice but with a lot of encouragement and information from my friends I eventually managed it and the set is now working like a good un.

I never ever thought I would stand a chance of sorting the chassis out as I still struggle with vintage radio's. I was attracted to the set because it was dirt cheap and really should have been given a decent funeral. Just to make sure I didn't give up on the restoration I stuck my neck out and did the lot in front of the world and boy; it really tested my staying power especially as the work was carried out in the middle of the worst winter on record.

Whichever set you choose Paul; take your time and gain maximum pleasure from doing the work. How about sharing the restoration as work in progress on the forum? It's much better restoring a TV than watching the rubbish now being shown.

Good luck and kind regards, Col.

Thanks all for the kind and helpful replies,

Col, I will indeed do a running restoration on the form, as I think I will need quite a bit of assistance from some of our more
knowledgeable members Help

I will have a think about all the good suggestions pointed my way, and see what I can find for sale.

The 3805 is a BRC1580, and I know that site well. Look at the difference between the two sets...

I would leave Bush sets out of the equation for now because of the problem with and difficulty to get hold of working Bush LOPTs from this era. Basically, the EHT winding used to melt and the set would come on OK then the picture would fade away as the winding got hotter...

TIP : If you go for a Dual Standard set, then power the set down to change standards - most LOPTs seem to fail on switch-over.

Cheers,

Steve P.

steve is right about the bush lopt ,the same can be said of 1970's philips sets

Hi i think the personal ferguson is cute but can give strange faults at times but carfull recap and solderup of the pcb can work wonders. there are itt valve portable out there which can give good results .I have one and its full of phillips mustard caps and when i got it it hadnt been switched on for years. so i gave it some mains and it just worked. But its upto you if you want a small set or a mid sized set. Danny
