I wish to increase the mains voltage slightly whilst drawing about 3 amps
for a short period.
I don't want the expense of a variac for just a
short job and thought of this.......
Say I get a second hand 6v 3 amp trany.
When switched on, I connect one leg of the 6v to the mains neutral.
Then if the 6 v were in phase with the mains
the volts between the other 6v leg to mains live would be
240+6 so I could use the 246 volts at 3 amps?
(obviously if out of phase the volts would be 240-6 =234v)
Excuse my ignorance if the above idea is rubbish, but would it work?
